Brace yourselves, folks, there’s a new video of an NFL player doing something horrible.
This time, the culprit is New Orleans Saints linebacker Junior Galette, and the video shows Galette striking several people with a belt during a scuffle on the beach, and striking a woman with the belt twice. The Saints have been made aware of the video, and have sent it to NFL officials. Only time will tell if they will choose to release Galette, as the Bears did with Ray McDonald last month.
This news is not terribly surprising when you consider that Galette was arrested for domestic violence after allegedly assaulting a female houseguest this past January. Galette is already scheduled to meet with NFL officials to discuss that incident. To be fair, the charges against Galette were eventually dismissed, but that certainly doesn’t guarantee his innocence, and the presence of this video obviously does not bode well for him.
So, now we’re simply left with the question of whether Goodell will manage to screw this up. Will he only suspend Galette for the second half of a preseason game? Will he try as hard as he can to avoid ever watching the video? Will it somehow end up in the hands of Chris Hardwick and make its debut on an episode of @midnight? No one can say for sure. All we know is there’s yet another player who appears to have a history of abusing women, and no one in the right mind would have any confidence that Goodell will handle it properly.
